Talking of anniversaries, I was rereading his book Rendezvous with Rama a few days ago. In the prologue, he gives the “historical” background to the Spacewatch program which scanned for space objects which could collide with the Earth – it was founded following the cataclysmic impact of a meteoroid with Italy, which killed 600,000 and caused massive economic damage. The date and time of the impact? 09:46 (GMT), September 11th 2077.

Anyway, however you look at it he’s a great man, from his enormous contributions to literature to his invention of the geostationary satellite – happy birthday, ACC!
