Birth of a new obsession

I’m not sure why but I’ve never been into Napster, Kazaa, or any of the online music stuff-whatchamacallit. I have Dean Esmay to thank for changing all that. He pointed me in the direction of the marvelous Winamp, which beats RealPlayer and WMP like a cheap rug. And like the hopeless compulsive I am, I spent the rest of the day seeking out ever-new and esoteric sources of music. If any readers have good sources for opera MP3’s, please get in touch.

You may want to check out a Usenet News Reader and subscribe to a service. Use the newsreader to download the service’s group list (Uh, don’t be scared that there will be about 80k groups), and then look for stuff like “sounds” – or more specifically “MP3.CLASSICAL”, “MUSIC.CLASSICAL”,
    “78RPM”, etc.
I use the Xnews free newsreader: there are others, both free and shareware.
The first sevice I subscribed to was free.teranews.com – for a one-time signup fee (it was under $10) you can download 50meg a day for as long as the service is in business. I have been using it for years!
When I started downloading longer stuff*, I subscribed ($10/month) to a site which allows about 500meg/day. There are lots of them.
