Change in Tactics

I guess we’ll have a chance to see how well peace-nik-ery works. In reaction to the Al Qaida attack on a commuter train, the Spanish have voted in the Socialists – who cheered off departing Prime Minister Aznar with calls of “you’re a fascist.”
On one side of the coin, I’ll be sad to see the Spanish leaving the coalition of the willing.

On the other side of the coin, I’m a little bummed that we will have a real-life experiment testing the Kerry Theory – that is, if we only grovel enough, our Islamofascist enemies will spare us, for now.
I suspect that avenging “The Tragedy of Andalusia” is far higher on Osama’s list, than making nice with Spain. I also suspect Spain will be left alone for a while.
Britain and Italy – brace yourselves. You are next.
It’s war, folks. We can fight these cowardly bastards now, or we can act like mice, hide, and buy some time – after which they will come for us from a position of strength. By that, I mean nukes on freighters in a couple harbors; or in possession of France’s nuclear navy. I hope that Spain, despite this awful setback, stays the course.

My, my. Just three days ago we were all Spaniards. Now they’re groveling Quislings.
It goes to show how conservatives will abandon you at the first disagreement.

It should come as no surprise that they’re cheering the “decision” of the Spanish people on blogs like “Change for America,” one of the main spinoffs of the Howard Dean campaign for the presidency.
I found this nugget on samizdata.net: “The eastern half of the Western world has now officially committed cultural and political suicide. Eurabia has been reborn in its place.”
While a bit extreme as there are still many of good faith in Western Europe, the point is well made I think.
Appropriate but sad comment and warning for Britons and Italy.
(And my apologies as I don’t do html and am having a devil of a time getting this posted with listed URLs.)

Mithras, bite my ass, you dissembling shite. You know full well I didn’t call the Spanish quislings. Quitters, maybe. But not traitors.
And Steve, thanks for the comment.

Okay, Al, I stand corrected. They’re cowards, not traitors. Cowards in the face of the enemy. Gotcha.
Now, we return you to reality: Spain has 3,500 troops in Afghanistan, Kosovo, Bosnia and Iraq. The ones in Iraq may be shifted to other areas or may come home. While right-wingers fleck themselves with spittle, Spain still stands against terrorism.

Mithras, if only this was some stupid masturbatory partisan fantasy. Thing is, I don’t think it is. It’s a single battle against ascendant Islamofascism, and the root cause is the failed culture of the middle east. We in the west have perpetuated that culturee by making a small clan of crooks fabulously wealthy with oil revenues, and by turning a blind eye when they brutalize their own people to maintain a tight grip on the money and power. Sure, you can blame failed European colonialism, and you can blame the Middle East’s cultural issues, that prevent the region from developing something we would recognize as an economy. We can’t do too much about that. But we can do something about the strong men, the despots, the thieves and the lunatics – we can clear them out of the way and try to give the people in the M.E. the tools they need to maybe improve their lot.
I am of the mindset that supporting corrupt strongmen created or grossly exacerbated the problems we face now, and that we have an obligation to fix it. Furthermore, if we fail to do so, the problem will only snowball. Which failed states ought we leave alone, Mithras? Pakistan, which was selling nukes to e verybody with the cash – including our good friends, the Sauds, apparently? Iraq – which in spite of all the insistence to the contrary, was in close contact and at least a minor supporter of terrorism through the 90’s? Syria, which ratchets up the violence every time it seems like the so-called Peace Process is moving forward? Iran, whose nuclear weapons program is far enough along that the UN is distressed?
And one other thing, Mithras. I assume you were outraged all through the 79s and 80s and early 90s by U.S. support for strongmen, and our failure to take action to stop human rights abuses. So why change now?
And just out of curiosity, If you can’t try to fix the failed nations that produce terrorists, then how exactly do we fight terrorism? I’m not looking for a vague answer – give me some specifics about how you would fight Al Qaida, keeping in mind most Middle Eastern governments aren’t going to cooperate with you, and keeping in mind the premise I’m pretty sure you hold, is that we need to get rid of PATRIOT and in fact clamp down on all these law enforcement abuses here in the U.S.

Mithras, even though you really believe that you’re saying something extraordinarily important and profound, it can be simply translated into this — “Nyeah, nyeah, nyeah!!”
People are trying to reason with you, and all you can do is fire insults. Well, thus far, my perception of liberals is unchanged…can you be more typical??
