An American in London

And people love him! They really love him!
Of course I do not refer to President Bush, but composer Samuel Barber, whose Vanessa, shockingly still unstaged in the UK is garnering raves for a concert performance with the BBC Symphony. Led by American music champion Leonard Slatkin and sung by American stars Christine Brewer, Susan Graham and William Burden, it’s been hailed by the Independent, the Guardian, the Telegraph and slightly less so by the Financial Times. Apparently a recording is in the works. Good.
