Everything old is new again

Fromental Halevy’s La Juive opened at the Met last week in a production borrowed from Vienna. Particularly disturbing in an age when the anti-Semitism of the plot seems to be back in fashion all over the world.
Reviews from the Times,Daily News,
Newsday and the Financial Times are divided on the quality of the music and the production, but all agree that Neil Shicoff‘s performance as the rabbi Éléazar is a triumph.
