Franco Corelli

Franco Corelli Dead at 82

I never saw Corelli live, but any opera fan of his era can tell you stories of his magnetism, his good looks, his musicality and of course that glorious voice that was (and to me, still is) the epitome of tenordom. He was also a regular, in his later years, at Caffe Taci, and all the young singers to whom he freely and generously offered advice and guidance will sorely miss him.
Some of my favorite Corelli recordings:
Tosca with Birgit Nilsson
Turandot with Birgit Nilsson
Carmen with Leontyne Price and Mirella Freni
Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci with Tito Gobbi, Victoria de los Angeles and Lucine Amara
This is a good inexpensive sampler with some of his best opera work.
And this disc has a whole bunch of his fabulous renditions of Neapolitan songs.
