Next time you’re arguing with your favorite anti-globalization jerk, and he starts going off about free trade, just send him here. Print it out and plaster it around your neighborhood if you have to.

    Simple but not the best… lets take the rice example. It would be something of a fatal achilles heal if Japan bought all its rice abroad. Their local ability to produce would disappear. They then would become effectively a client state of whoever controls the rice market and of course the political system there over which they have no control. They and even Europe have the right and duty to maintain an ability to produce food for themselves. Somethings cann’t be left to chance. The US is the biggest protectionist of all and although all countries probably over egg the pudding some degree of protectionism is not all bad.
